The world is threatened by global warming. Your task is to get the seed for a new kind of tree that will help change this (“save the world”)” to a safe place where it can grow and spread. The quest will take place in a forest where it is your knowledge of what lives and grows there and how they are connected that will move you towards your goal. As my fellow students know, we have an assignment to complete before the Christmas break: design and pitch a game. When I talked to our course leader Jim Thompson last week he suggested I set up a couple of, what the British apparently call, “Aunt Sallys”. I may have the name wrong but my understanding is: “Aunt Sallys” are ideas that one can freely explore and shoot down, to be used as a first step in getting the idea train rolling. Assume you have been tasked with the creation of a playground item/activity. What form might it take?
I would create a game using a new platform called a Siftables. Siftables are amazing little (4 x 4 cm.) computerized blocks. They have a graphical display, can communicate wirelessly, sense their orientation and proximity to other blocks, and respond to movement. They can interact with digital information and media in different networks within blue tooth range.
